Child support debt leads to brokers' licenses being suspended

There are many different actions states take to try to address failures to pay child support. One of the more common and well-known actions is the bringing of criminal charges against individuals accused of child support delinquency. However, not all state actions to address child support delinquency involve the criminal justice system. For example, a Midwest state has recently started using the suspension of securities-selling licenses to try to address failures to pay child support.

The state in question is Indiana. The state reportedly looked through the records of state-licensed stockbrokers to determine if any of them were delinquent on child support. Reportedly, in this review, the state identified four state-licensed stockbrokers who were behind by $4,000 or more on their child support payments.

Terrence Howard divorce finalized

One way issues related to a divorce are sometimes resolved is through a settlement. This can be seen in a recently finalized celebrity divorce case.

The case involved the actor Terrence Howard. Howard has played roles in many films, including the role of James Rhodes in the first installment of the Iron Man film series.

Man finally freed from paying support for child that wasn't his

This blog has previously written about parents who fail to pay the child support that they owe to the custodial parents of their children. But what about when someone is not the father and he is forced to pay child support anyway? One Tennessee man has been living through this nightmare for several years.

The man, who has been in front of numerous judges pleading his case, has already paid about $30,000 in support for a child that is not his, and he even has the DNA evidence to prove it. It was only recently that a judge finally stepped in and stopped the child support payments. But that does not change the fact that the man has been arrested and had his driver's license stripped in the past for failure to pay support. In fact, he is still paying the woman $460 a month in back pay.

In 2001, Aldean and his wife got married. Last year, Aldean's marriage was front and center in the media, as Aldean got caught on photo kissing another woman (a former American Idol contestant) in a bar. It appears that Aldean and his wife are now calling it quits.

Some lawmakers think getting a divorce is too easy

There has been a lot of discussion in policy circles lately about ways to strengthen the institution of marriage. Some politicians and religious leaders worry that couples are becoming too quick to seek a divorce instead of working out their problems.

Some states have attempted to address this problem by increasing the length of time it takes for couples to get a divorce. So far, Tennessee has not lengthened the waiting period. A divorce in Tennessee without children need only be on file for sixty (60) days, and a divorce with children ninety (90) days, before it can be finalized.  Uncontested divorces are typically finalized soon after the expiration of the waiting period while some complicated contested matters may take longer.

10 men, 1 woman arrested in child support arrest sweep

The economic conditions our country has experienced over the past several years have resulted in many Americans facing financial struggles. Such struggles have led to many parents facing struggles when it comes to meeting their child support obligations.

In the face of such struggles, a parent with child support obligations may be tempted to simply stop making their child support payments. It is extremely important for parents to avoid this temptation. Failing to make ordered child support payments not only has major impacts on the children the payments are intended to benefit, but also can lead to a parent facing serious consequences, such as criminal charges and punishments.
